Collaborative Law
Judy is trained in collaborative law, which is an alternative process that intentionally avoids litigation and court involvement, wherein both spouses and their respective attorneys work together to come up with reasonable settlement agreements. The agreements reached can be temporary, partial agreements, or they can resolve all issues of the marriage.
Guardian Ad Litem
Guardians ad Litem help protect the best interests of the minor child(ren) by investigating the disputes and making recommendations. A Guardian ad Litem is not an "advocate" or a "lawyer" for the child(ren), but is more akin to an evaluator, to assist in understanding the child(ren's) best interests. Judy has been handling Guardian ad Litem assignments in high conflict divorce and family custody cases for two decades. Judy accepts these assignments on sliding scale fees based on the conflict and the parents' income.
Prenuptial and Postnuptial (Antenuptial) Agreements
These agreements are written contracts couples enter prior to their marriage (prenuptial) or after they are married (postnuptial). It is a myth that only the wealthy should consider these agreements or that they represent a lack of trust in a relationship. These agreements can set the expectations for a successful marriage by allowing the couples to decide how certain financial matters can be handled during the course of their marriage, which is particularly helpful in second marriages. They also can offer a wide range of protections in the event of a failed marriage, as well as lessen the pain and wasted resources in the event of a divorce.
